About the Blog

I created this blog to share my thoughts on research articles, films, and literature.

My writing is targeted for individuals struggling with their mental health and as a resource for other therapists.

Content on my site focuses on themes of therapy in popular media. Particularly themes of addiction and recovery. I do reviews of books, films, and music through the lens of a licensed professional counselor.

Besides reviews, I also cover important research and its impacts for therapists, clients, and society as a whole.

Elijah Irving: My Story

I am a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor, and candidate for Certified Sexual Addiction Treatment.

I received my Bachelor’s degree from Moravian Seminary in 2015. Furthering my education, I received my Master’s Degree in Clinical Counseling from Moravian University in 2018.

After graduating, I started working at a outpatient drug and alcohol agency. While working there I met Dr. Jennifer Weeks. She invited me to lunch to discuss her work treating sex and porn addicts, and sex offenders. From that moment on, I have been one of the therapists that provides treatment for this population at her private practice.

Since entering the field, I have witnessed the cultural enlightenment around the opioid crisis.

Despite the open discussion of drug and alcohol addiction, the general population still stigmatizes sex and porn addiction. Sex and porn are the cheapest drugs most people can get, but society is still reluctant to talk about the effects of these addictions.

Sex and pornography addiction can ruin relationships, psychological development, result in sexual performance issues, and even criminal charges.
