Holy shit this review nails it. I just finished the movie myself and it blew me away how accurate it was. I've destroyed my marriage by acting exactly like how Brandon acted. The final scene of him falling to the ground, gasping in pain, has been me many many times. I know exactly what that moment feels like. Its when the gig is up, the pain has caught up, the soothing cool of addiction ceases to protect you, and you're naked and bare before the burning flame of your self-hatred. You are forced in that moment to feel just how disgusting you are, how disgusted with yourself you are, how putrid and gross and unclean you are. The shame is overwhelming and all you can do is literally collapse on the floor. Then the movies ending; you can see the cycle for what it is. You've felt the pain, you've coped with the pain with certain behaviors, we've been here before. The woman is right in front of you, full of desire and flirtation; ripe, juicy fruit to be sucked from in your endless pursuit of sating the shame. Do you give in again? Come on, of course you do. You're a piece of shit, after all. Giving in is what you do.
